May 16 - Classic Movies

Hello,
Classic movies — why are they classic? Because the theme, the acting, directing, and photography is timeless. The wonder of the classics is we can watch them over again even though both we and they have aged.
Here are just a few of my favorites. I didn’t list MOONSTRUCK — not sure it’s a classic but it should be.
Just one of its great quotes:
Rose: Do you love him, Loretta?
Loretta Castorini: Ma, I love him awful.
Rose: Oh, God, that’s too bad.
The “Familia” ending is superb.
Here are my picks.
CASABLANCA
Can anyone forget Bogie’s, “Here’s looking at you kid.”
SOME LIKE IT HOT
Billy Wilder’s sharp comedy— Cross-dressing with Curtis, Lemon, and Marilyn M.
VERTIGO
Hitchcock’s masterful suspense.
THE THIRD MAN
Post-war Vienna with zither scores right on point.
THE GRAPES OF WRATH
One of Henry Fonda’s great performances.
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
Young Brando is electric.
SHANE
Great Western — gunslinger tries to find a new life.
SEVEN SAMURAI
Best known film from famed director Kurosawa.
WIZARD OF OZ
Who can’t watch this one again? Toto and “there’s no place like home.”
HIGH NOON
I confess. I feel in love with Gary Cooper when I was 5. A political message in this Western of loyalty and betrayal. Betrayed by everyone, including his bride, the sheriff stands his ground. A testament of integrity, duty, and morality.
It’s summertime, but some rainy evening, pop some popcorn and revisit a classic. Did I miss one of your favorites? Let me know.
