![]() | Hello Friends, WELL FRIENDS, RIGHT AFTER THIS HAPPY PROMOTION WENT OUT, I COULDN’T BELIEVE MY EYES!! MY WEBSITE SUDDENLY BECAME THAT DREADED WHITE BLANK WITH ALL KINDS OF ☠️ NOTICES. |
I suppose you could compare my first reaction to a Category 5 hurricane. We are working to repair the technical problems which also affected the production of this newsletter. We will be back with our November issue and will feed you little tidbits during the month of October.
September is here. The days are cooler, the nights great for sleeping and the sun is moving in the arch that throws wonderful light and shadows. We cobbled together this issue and I want to thank all of you who alerted me of the web disaster.
See you in November …if not sooner.
Cheers!

Planting Native Shrubs in the Fall
It’s not just perennial wildflowers that provide habitat for wildlife. Shrubs are particularly important to wildlife, so don’t forget to include some in your fall plantings. Shrubs offer two things wildlife needs as the weather turns cold or wet: food sources, and a place where they can find cover from the elements. Fall is one of the best times to plant shrubs. We offer a variety of native shrubs that ship through the end of November to many states.
Choose native shrubs that offer berries in the fall to provide food for migratory birds as well as species that stick around all winter. Many shrubs also have showy blooms in the spring or fall which provide nectar and pollen to bees and butterflies. Evergreen shrubs maintain green foliage throughout the year, whereas deciduous shrubs lose their foliage completely during the winter or dry season. Include some evergreen species to provide hiding places and visual interest year-round.
When choosing your shrubs, determine if they are dioecious, meaning they have separate male and female plants, or monoecious, meaning they have male and female flowers on the same plant. For dioecious species, including some hollies (Ilex spp.), bayberry/wax myrtle (Morella spp.) and junipers (Juniperus spp.), you need to have both male and female plants in order to ensure pollination and the formation of fruits. When buying dioecious shrubs, opt for a 4-pack to increase the likelihood of berry production.
Editors Note: Great Sales right now.

A migrating monarch can fly up to 2,500 or sometimes even 3,000 total miles before reaching its destination. A monarch can travel over 100 miles in a single day with the right conditions. These butterflies coast on air currents to move quickly and conserve energy.
![]() | Sept 17 - Full Harvest Moon The term "Harvest Moon" refers to the full bright Moon that occurs closest to the earth at the start of autumn. The name dates from the time before electricity, when farmers depended on the Moon's light to harvest their crops late into the night. |

STOP! Don’t bag those fallen leaves for the dump. Mow them once or twice and you have wonderful natural mulch for your lawn or garden. Go a little wild and leave a pile under some bush. The birds will appreciate the bugs that gather when cold weather sets in.
