Hello Friends,

It’s April … we survived the winter.

While the television, social media and newspapers may be filled with gloom and terror, I walk out to my mailbox each morning and the trees are filled with song. The songbirds have returned along with those who brave the winter with us — and the air is filled with “mating music.”

The natural world’s indifference to our human follies is the best cure for anxiety.

I see the golden daffodils blooming in my yard, the pink buds ready to burst on my very old cherry tree and while it’s still early, the sap is rising in the tree branches, which are beginning to look alive.

I know I check social media, listen to TV, and read the daily newspaper — after all, I’m not a recluse — yet.

While I stay informed, I choose to stop each day, turn off the “noise,” and step outside to become part of something bigger than me. The timeless wonder of nature that reaches beyond all of us, but includes us, if we choose.

Take time — turn off noise — and absorb the wonder. It can make your heart sing and lift your spirits.

Happy April! See you in May.

Shrimp Scampi Day 🍤 🍤 🧄

Seek Out Delight

Does the state of the world seem grim?  Given the current events we hear every day — it is.

So, let’s be frivolous. Make a point to notice at least one thing every day that delights you. A flower, a bird, a smile from someone —nothing is too small or absurd. Practice each day and you will be amazed how much there is to marvel at. The more you seek delight, the more you will find. Then share those delights with others.

My friend Gertie used to call me every time she saw a rainbow. “Look out your window to the East.” What a shared delight!
